the story behind her name

So while we were on our “we’re not pregnant so why not?” vacation in Ireland, we stopped in a bookstore to search for a souvenir for our nephews.   Tony picked up a book called A Dublin Fairytale and we browsed through it.  It was about a little girl named Fiona.   I looked up at Tony and said, “if we ever have a baby someday, and she happens to be a girl, I kind of like this name.”  Tony agreed.

2 days later I was officially “late,” bought a test and it was positive.  That day we said again, “if it is a girl, we should name her Fiona.”

At 14 weeks we had a friend order a confetti cannon to surprise us with our baby’s gender.  Right before the cannon went off, I thought to myself, “please be a little girl.”  And the pink confetti that came shooting out made me literally jump for joy.  We recorded the reveal and at the end of the video, we call her by her name.  It has been her name since before we knew we were pregnant.

Around Christmas we ordered the book off Amazon and read it to my bump on Christmas night.

As far as her middle name, Clare (the Irish spelling is without the “i”) is a county in Ireland that we visited during our trip.   We stayed in Doolin one night, right outside of the Cliffs of Moher in county Clare.

Fiona means “fair, white” and Clare means “bright, clear.”  We plan on calling her “Fi” for short.  🙂

The book has a neat message too- Fiona is trying to get to her grandmother’s in a hurry and other characters keep interrupting her trip to ask her for help.  Fiona always helps them, despite her own plans.  In the end Fiona needs their help, and they all come to her rescue.  A lesson about being good to others and Karma? Yes please!  We named her in Ireland and haven’t thought twice about it! Welcome to the world, Fiona Clare!

I love this! God truly had his hand on your whole journey and the pieces fit incredibly perfect! Couldn’t be happier for you two (three!) and know that little Fi will be loved and cherished by the two most deserving parents forever! Hugs!
