previous furniture projects

Here is a little peek at my past projects.  Some have been up-cycled more than once as my tastes have changed.  I take Phoebe Buffet’s stance on furniture: Pottery barn is evil.  Okay, maybe I don’t feel THAT strongly about it, but why pay so much when you could restore something from someone’s past?  I LOVE furniture restoration!  I find that I completely lose track of time while sanding, painting and detailing.  It makes me so happy.  When we first bought our house in 2013, I went NUTS.  We hit up garage sale after garage sale and I bought a quart of paint in EVERY color that I liked.  Our house was neutral, and because it wasn’t our FOREVER home, I wanted to add color where I could- in my furniture redo’s.  Slowly, I have repainted many of these projects to make the pieces more neutral overall.   But I do have many touches of turquoise and green left in the house.  They remind me of the beach.

Anyways… here’s a look into my crazy, “can’t stop, won’t stop” DIY brain!

Tony’s old dresser turned into Fiestaware cabinet! Many of the drawers were broken, so I decided to just take them out and use it more as a display for my favorite Fiestaware pieces.

Now, I choose to display the more neutral pieces:

Tony’s college dresser… originally brown… sanded and painted THIS color.

and redone again for a more neutral look…

These chairs… got these gems at a garage sale as a set (2 chairs and a bench) for $30.00

Recovered the cushions in  a classic stripe and painted the wood black. (These will get another redo prior to our next move.)

And for the bench? Makes for a lovely cushioned seat on our back porch. Went for the aqua and colors outside.

This desk has been in my dad’s family for at least 5 generations.  It has been about every color imaginable! I decided to spice it up with some stenciling for my craft room.

Yes… that is polka dot wrapping paper on the sides of the drawers. And the knobs are spray painted in a “brushed nickel.”

This little end table I found at a yard sale.  The top was a rotted circle piece nailed to the actual table.  I loved the details on the table and thought I could spiff it up a bit.  The table was $5.00

My aunt and uncle gave me this classic rocking chair.  Our colors for our patio are red and aqua… so it got a face lift too.  I spend hours every spring/summer/fall rocking away in my backyard oasis.

This giant over-sized red chair was a gem I picked up from Craigslist back in college.  My bestie Lindsey and I borrowed her dad’s truck and drove it to inspect a couch and a chair.   We somehow ended up lifting and transporting them to my little Kansas City apartment.   This chair sits in our master bedroom and I wanted to make it a little more serene.  I got the fabric at Hobby Lobby, using my 40% off coupon to make it super affordable.  Then… I stapled over the fabric EVERYWHERE.  I sewed a cushion cover to complete this chair, and use our bed pillows (that are never actually on the bed) to accent.

Can’t say enough about how furniture restoration makes me feel! I plan on doing a few more pieces prior to our move this summer.
