Fall is my favorite season. I love wearing sundresses and wedges as much as the next girl, but by the end of summer, I’m ready to throw on that blanket scarf and cozy up with a hot chocolate. Not much beats the scent of fall candles burning, the wisp of a crisp breeze across the room from the open windows, and the warmth of a Pippa curled up on my lap. (see below.) Speaking of candles, I was lucky enough to go to Michael’s on a whim and hit the jackpot! 4 for $10 for Fall scented candles. I bought 8.
I get almost as excited to decorate for fall as I do for Christmas! Years ago, I bought a very sad, beat up clearance wreath from Michael’s at the end of the fall season. When we moved into our home in 2013, it came with us because I had plans to fix it up for our first fall in our new home. I added a few fancy pumpkins and leaves and crafted a burlap ribbon banner. I painted some chipboard letters white that I found at Hobby Lobby and hot glued everything to the “clearance wreath.” I love it.
Inside our home, you’ll find pumpkins sprinkled throughout the main level. Within the past couple of years, white pumpkins have been trending. I have collected an abundance of cheap pumpkins over the years- some which I really didn’t like. So I took an empty pizza box, some wooden kebob skewers and literally skewered the fake pumpkins into the pizza box. (I wish I had pictures of this as it sounds weird.)
Then I spray painted them with my favorite spray paint: Rustoleum Antique White. When they were dry, I took dark brown acrylic craft paint and a small paint brush and painted within the lines of the pumpkin and then smudged or lightened the lines with the edge of a paper towel. The pumpkin stems were easy to remove from the pumpkins and they got a coat of brown as well. I really like how they turned out.
A couple of summers ago, I found these hurricane lanterns on clearance at Lowe’s. I got all 3 of these for $12! (Originally would have cost $50 for the trio.) Two live on either side of our television on our entertainment dresser, and one in the center of our kitchen table. They are perfect for every season. For fall, they get some synthetic leaves around a fall jar candle.
The craft club made wine cork pumpkins for October, so mine found its home within our kitchen table centerpiece. I’ve collected furniture odds and ends in the 3 years that we’ve lived in this house, and a shallow desk drawer became the perfect centerpiece holder for our kitchen table. All it needed was a few coats of white paint.
Lastly, my chalkboard got embellished with a Pinterest-inspired Fall Bucket List that I’m looking forward to completing! HAPPY FALL Y’ALL! It’s officially here to stay!
